Welcome to Panama! Upon arriving to Tocumen international Airport you will be received by our local Panamanian Team who will transfer you from the airport over to The W Hotel, where you will have the afternoon to relax and enjoy the city on your own until our welcome dinner at 7pm.
After an early breakfast socializing with the other patrons of the hotel we head over to the Causeway of Amador, a new developing tourism area with marinas, restaurants, boardwalk, and is where we will depart on a 30 minute boat ride to Taboga Island. Come ready to enjoy the sun, the sand, and the ocean while our crew prepares you a beach style barbecue. In the afternoon take an optional walking tour of the island and learn about the history of the “Island of Flowers”. We will be back in the city at the hotel around 5pm and the evening is yours to enjoy.
After breakfast we will visit our friends at the SAMAAP museum then we head to the ancient ruins of Panama Viejo where we will hear the history of the first settlement in Panama. As we leave your stomach will be rumbling and the chef will be waiting with a delicious Afro-Caribbean Lunch. Then we head across town to Casco Viejo, a World Heritage Site. Dress comfortably on this day as we will do a bit of walking and learn about those who came to Panama long before us. The evening is open for you to enjoy and explore.
Make sure to get up early and be ready to depart by 8 AM. This will be one of your favorite days of the trip mixing black culture, history, food, and fun. We start off by visiting the town of Colon and then we drive an hour along the upper coast to Portobelo where you will have a chance to see the ancient ruins from the 1500s followed by a Caribbean style lunch and some Congo dancing. After lunch stop to see the Black Jesus before continuing onto Isla Mamey, a small Caribbean Island that will have you going “coconuts”. It’s a long day so bring snacks for the ride. We expect to be back at the hotel around 7pm.
Depending on your departure times you may have an opportunity after breakfast to spend your last moments shopping for souvenirs or saying your goodbyes. Your Airport shuttle will be standing by assuring you make it to the airport in time. Safe travels.
