CASCO VIEJO - WALKING TOUR
Explore Panama's most popular tourist destination and World Heritage Site on foot with a local expert who will share with you the history of Casco dating back to the early 1500's when Pirate Captain Morgan was invading the city to loot and steel. Now this quaint area calls tourists from all over the world who drool over the amazing architecture making this area one of the most photographed areas in Panama City.
On this 3 part, 2 hour walk we will discover what makes Panama one of the most important cities along the Pacific Coast during the Spanish colonization period and discover the treasures of gastronomic heritage. Finish at the "Mercado del Marisco" or Fish Market with a delicious ceviche and a Panama Beer.
During the walking tour we are going to visit the following historical places:
- La Merced Church
- Baluarte de Tigre
- Golden Altar Church
- Santo Domingo Convent
- Independence Square
- Plaza de Francia
While we learn about Panama history, we are going to make some stops to taste Geisha, the best coffee in the world that is produced here in Panama with a chocolate tasting make with Panamanian cacao. By the end of the historic walk, let's refresh ourselves with a sweet “raspao” at Plaza de Francia.
After getting involved with the history and the vibe of the bohemian “Casco Antiguo” we are going to stop in a local famous restaurant, called Café Coca Cola, to get a real Panamanian lunch and relax. If we are lucky, maybe we can hear some urban legends by the locals of Santa Ana neighborhood.
To continue our Panamanian experience, our last stop is in the local markets. Here we will recognize the ingredients to prepare classic Panamanian dishes and the secrets that the vendors tell us about the origins and cuisine tips. We close our tour with a classic combo for relaxation of the Panamanian: Ceviche and beer
